Mah-jong Group


A group of members interested in Mah-jong will host the group


Mah-jong Group is an ongoing group and will continue in 2017. If you like to play cards, perhaps you would like to try Mah-jong. Beginners are welcome to come along. If have a Mahjong set bring it along and if you would like to read up on the subject, the Mahjong Player's Companion by Patricia A. Thompson & Betty Maloney is recommended.
Mahjong will recommence on Monday, 6th February, 2017.Every Monday, 9.30am to 11.30am; and
Every Friday, 1pm-3pm

Social Card Playing Group


Hosted by various members


A group of social card players meeting once a fortnight to play canasta, 500 etc. If you are not sure how to play, come along and we will teach you. Please feel free to come every fortnight or just when you feel like some fun.
Please bring along some afternoon tea to share.Alternate Mondays ongoing. 2pm.
Social Cards will start up again on Monday, 13th February, 2017 and then every alternate fortnight.

Meeting Secret Rows - Part 1. An Introduction to Cryptic Crosswords

Cryptic crosswords? What’s that all about? If you’ve ever attempted (or even just looked at) a cryptic and given up in bafflement or disgust, then this is for you. Over four sessions of gentle enlightenment learn about the warped minds of cryptic compilers and discover their devious methods of concealment. Gradually enter the strange world that is Cryptics until all is revealed – and you’re hooked!

Meeting Secret Rows - Part 2. A more advanced course

Aimed at giving people skills and practice in devising clues of various types; not with the aim of turning out compilers, but to help get a better insight into how compilers' minds work and thus make their own solving easier.

Advanced Mah-jong Group

This group is limited to eight members and will focus on learning how to score Mahjong.
As the games will be played at a reasonably fast pace, those joining the advanced group should already be experienced in the basics of playing mahjong. Play will follow the same rules as in the book the beginners groups use. i.e. 'The Mah Jong Player's Companion' by Patricia A Thompson and Betty Maloney.Classes are finished for this course.Ros Ludwig's home.
